Admissions Interview

Applicants to Riverdale’s entry-point grades (pre-K, kindergarten, grade 6, grade 7, and grade 9) will be contacted to schedule an interview after submitting their Preliminary Forms. Applicants to non-entry point grades will be contacted to interview only if there is available space and Riverdale is able to consider their application. Interviews are offered virtually and in-person.

Pre-K and kindergarten applicants interview with their parents/guardians. The interview is 45-60 minutes long.

Applicants to grades 6, 7, and 9 participate in a one-on-one interview with the admissions team. The admissions team speaks with the applicant for 20-30 minutes, and then with parents/guardians for 15-20 minutes.

In addition to the one-on-one interview, applicants to grades 6 and 9 participate in a group interview. The group interview is 45-60 minutes, during which a member of the admissions team guides a small group of applicants through a lesson and a group design project.

The admissions interview is a great opportunity for you to show Riverdale who you are beyond your application. Test Innovators’ Interview Prep course helps students and parents prepare for the interview. During the course, you will prepare for interview questions, learn how to highlight your strengths, and solidify your interview skills.

We suggest researching Riverdale before your interview so you can explain why you are interested in the school. Read about their philosophy of character education and their emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. Check out the curriculum for Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School and consider the academic opportunities that excite you. Look into the athletics teams for Middle School and Upper School, and be prepared to share if you hope to get involved with a team. Let your excitement for opportunities at Riverdale come through in your interview!

Admissions Tests

Applicants to grades 5-12 are required to submit either SSAT or ISEE scores.
