Meet Alisha
We are delighted to introduce Alisha, one of our 2022 scholars. Through hard work and perseverance, Alisha increased her SSAT score by 21 points, scoring in the 96th percentile overall!
Alisha is particularly fascinated by history and likes to learn the lesser-known facts as she believes that they brighten historical narratives. She also enjoys Algebra, which she has been studying for a year.
In her spare time, Alisha likes to read, write, and draw. She also loves going to theme parks and appreciates the adrenaline rush that comes with riding roller coasters. She is fearless when it comes to heights.
Preparation
Although Alisha found the preparation process to be difficult, she put in a lot of practice, which ultimately led to her success. Using Test Innovators, she created a daily study routine that involved taking individual practice sections and then completing practice exercises in between each test section. With this approach, Alisha noticed consistent growth in her performance over time.
One area in particular that Alisha gained confidence in was vocabulary. She explained, “I was really bad at vocabulary at the beginning and then I started looking on my own. I started looking through Test Innovators. I took the lessons and took a few practice tests. And I got way better at it.”
Advice for Students
Alisha advises other students to practice as much as possible. She made use of the Test Innovators platform every day by practicing in small doses and found this routine really effective. She also encourages students to not give up on test day when they encounter challenging questions.
Advice for Parents
Alisha’s mother, Noor, advised parents not to pressure their students when it comes to test preparation. She explained that she encouraged Alisha to practice but did not force her to. She noted that a study schedule was helpful in keeping a routine. Lastly, she encouraged students to take some time each day to learn one new thing.
New School
Alisha is a 9th grader at Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City. She was drawn to the school’s diverse community. Prior to applying, Alisha hoped to find an all-girls school, so Nightingale was the perfect match for her.
