Meet Ayesha
Ayesha’s favorite subject in school is science. This past year as part of the science fair, she conducted an experiment on rooftop garden planter boxes. Her experiment aimed to uncover how sod affected the temperature of a planter box. She discovered that a planter box with sod had a lower temperature than a planter box without sod. As part of the science fair, Ayesha gave a presentation explaining her experiment and created a website with information about her experiment. Ayesha’s experience at the science fair further ignited her passion for science.
Ayesha’s SSAT Preparation
When Ayesha first took the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT), she didn’t do much to prepare for it, and after receiving her scores, she knew she could do better. Committed to doing her best, Ayesha worked diligently on the Test Innovators platform. She completed several practice tests, which helped familiarize her with the format of the test and gave her confidence in test-taking strategies and skills.
During her preparation, Ayesha focused primarily on the verbal section, as she struggled the most with analogy questions. In order to understand what she was doing wrong and learn how to correctly answer these questions, Ayesha reviewed the answer explanations for the questions she missed, watched numerous analogy strategy videos, and completed all of the recommended follow-up exercises.
When Ayesha took the SSAT for the second time, she was much more knowledgeable about the content on the test and knew what to expect. She went into the second test with months of practice under her belt, as well as a newfound sense of confidence.
When Ayesha first took the SSAT, she scored in the 46th percentile, but after months of dedicated test preparation, she raised her scores to the 89th percentile. Her hard work and determination is why she is one of our 2018-2019 Independent School Tuition Scholarship winners.
Ayesha’s Next School
This fall, Ayesha started 8th grade at Next Generation. Next Generation is an Independent Day School located in Champaign, Illinois. The school was founded in 1995 and serves students in grades PK-8. Next Generation is preparing the leaders of tomorrow to have the curiosity to discover, the wisdom to learn, and the courage to lead.
Although Ayesha will only have one year at Next Generation before she applies to high school, she is very excited to be attending. Next Generation is one of the top private schools in her area, which is what Ayesha and her family were looking for to further her education.
Ayesha’s Advice for Other Students
Ayesha’s advice for other students is to practice as much as possible in order to be best prepared for the official test. She believes the full-length practice tests and the hundreds of practice exercises really helped refine and expand her skills.
