Frequently Asked Questions

What is the enhanced ACT?

A visual guide to the new, enhanced ACTThe enhanced ACT is the new version of the ACT that starts rolling out in 2025. The new test is shorter with only 3 required “core” sections—English, Math, and Reading.

For a visual overview of the new test format, please see our Enhanced Act Infographic.

Will I be taking the enhanced ACT on test day?

It depends on when and how you’re taking the test. Here’s a quick overview of when the new, enhanced ACT will be introduced:

  • April 2025: National Online ACT
  • September 2025: National Paper ACT and International ACT
  • April 2026: In-School ACT

For more details, please refer to our flowchart.

Will you be releasing more practice tests for the enhanced ACT?

Yes! Our team of ACT experts is hard at work writing new practice tests for the enhanced ACT. If you purchase the Valedictorian package, the new tests will be added to your account once they are released.

I’m preparing for the enhanced ACT. Are legacy practice tests still relevant to me?

The format of the ACT is changing, but the skills and concepts being tested are the same. We recommend using the legacy tests as supplemental practice drills. You can complete these test sections either timed or untimed. If you choose to take them timed, please keep in mind that both the length of the test and the time allocated per question differ.

Here's How It Works

Step 1

Take a full-length practice test.

Get to know the content and format of the ACT by taking a full-length diagnostic test.

Step 2

Review your results.

See your score report, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate your time management skills.

Step 3

Focus on areas that need improvement.

Review answer explanations for the questions you missed or skipped and complete suggested follow-up exercises.

Step 4

Repeat.

Take another practice test to see the areas you've improved in and where you still need work. Gain confidence so you can succeed on test day.
