How to Get Into Harvard-Westlake

Application 

The admissions process at Harvard-Westlake primarily focuses on incoming 7th and 9th graders, although a limited number of students are also admitted to 10th grade. Applications to 8th grade are considered when spaces become available, while applications to 11th and 12th grade are considered only in special circumstances, such as when a student’s family relocates to Los Angeles. This guide focuses on 7th and 9th grade applicants, as these are the most common entry points.

All applications begin with an Admissions Inquiry. Upon submission, Harvard-Westlake will send interested families a PIN code that will allow them to access the online application system. 

Applicants will need to submit the following materials by January 15, 2027:

• Application for Admission and application fee:
  • The Application for Admission is the first step of the online application process and should be submitted as soon as possible. To guarantee an invitation to interview, 7th and 9th grade applicants must submit the application form by November 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
    • The application fee is waived for families applying for financial aid.
• Student photo (optional but encouraged)

• The Student Questionnaire
  • The Student Questionnaire helps Harvard-Westlake learn more about applicants and their interests. It must be submitted at least two days before the interview appointment.

• Letters of recommendation:
  • Harvard-Westlake requires recommendations from the following individuals:
    • Current English teacher
    • Current math teacher
    • Current administrator
  • Applicants enter their recommenders’ email addresses in the online application, and the recommendation forms are sent directly to them. Recommendations should be completed between November 1, 2026, and the application deadline.

• Transcripts from current year:
  • The Authorization for Release of Applicant’s Record and Transcript form should be submitted through the online application to a registrar or administrator at the applicant’s current school.

• Admissions test scores:
  • All applicants entering Harvard-Westlake in Fall 2027 must take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Scores must come from a single test taken between August 1, 2026, and January 15, 2027.
  • Applicants may take the ISEE on paper, online at a testing site, or through ISEE At-Home. Harvard-Westlake’s school code is 052135. The school does not recommend taking the ISEE more than once or pursuing tutoring or other special preparation.
