Meet Bei
We are excited to introduce Bei, one of our 2023 scholars. Through focus and consistency, Bei increased his ISEE score by 19%, scoring in the 97th percentile overall!
Bei has a wide variety of interests within academics and athletics. His current favorite subjects are writing and reading. Some of Bei’s favorite book series include The Land of Stories, Fablehaven, and Percy Jackson & the Olympians. He also enjoys writing his own stories as well.
In addition to reading and writing, Bei participates in a variety of sports, such as soccer, skiing, and mountain biking. He also takes chess lessons. Bei considers himself a “strong runner, chess player, and tree climber.”
Preparation
Bei’s previous school did not do standardized testing, so the ISEE was his first experience with a standardized test . Test Innovators taught Bei how to take a standardized test, including specific strategies to help him be successful. Understanding how to take the test had a big impact on his confidence and performance.
In addition to learning test-taking strategies, Test Innovators also helped Bei improve his reading comprehension skills. Practicing with Test Innovators helped him get the scores that he was aiming for.
Advice for Students
Bei’s advice for other students is to start preparing early, so that you can take your time. He explained that because everyone learns at their own pace, you want to allow yourself time to fully understand the material. His parting words were, “Practice a lot.”
Advice for Parents
Bei’s father, Lawrence, shared advice about studying vocabulary. He explained, “In terms of the vocabulary, think ahead and try to integrate it into your daily routine.” He added, “It is much easier to learn a few words a day than it is to learn 100 words at once.”
New School
Bei will be attending the Overlake School in Redmond, Washington. His older brother is currently going to Overlake, so Bei is looking forward to being at the same school. He is also excited about participating in the various athletics programs that the school offers.
